What's New?
New in 2020

Since my last update to this page, I have been on two pelagic bird trips out of Newport Oregon and traveled through California, Nevada, Utah, Oregon, Idaho, and Montana. A link to the trip report is at this LINK.

I spent the winter in the Ajo, Arizona area again and a lengthy trip report can be found at this LINK

New for 2019
I will be posting links to my favorite recent images on this page. These are images taken during winter of 2018-2019 and spring of 2019. Hopefully, I will have new images to post on frequent basis.

To start off, here's a link to my Buff-collared Nightjar, taken in Arizona in May 2019. This is long hoped for life
bird and it was pretty exciting to get a really nice photo on my second trip down to California Gulch and Warsaw Canyon.

Another bird that I've been seeking for years is the Ferruginous Pygmy-Owl. I could have got this
species in Texas in 2010 if I wanted to pay for access to private property, but I prefer to find my own birds.

Recently I have taken an interest in photographing herps too. Here are several of my favorites from
Arizona over the last few months. Gila Monsters, Sidewinder, Black-tailed Rattlesnake,
Spotted Leaf-nosed Snake, Nightsnake, Variable Sandsnake, and Western Patch-nosed Snake.

The use of a laser trigger allows me to photograph bats at night. Some are fairly easy, like nectar
bats coming to a hummingbird feeder, some are more difficult, like photographing bats coming to
water. Here are a few links, Nectar Bats and Pallid Bat. I hope to do a lot more of this in the coming months.

A couple more life birds taken this spring of 2019, Botteri's Sparrow and Five-striped Sparrow. Both species were singing early this year, probably due to the good rains over the winter.

In astrophotography, here are my favorites from last winter (2018-2019): Great Orion Nebula, LDN 1622 The Boogeyman Nebula, Helix Nebula, Comet 46P/Wirtanen, and Triangulum Galaxy
