Andromeda Galaxy

December 7, 2015

I tried it again tonight, with much better success at longer focal length (250mm). However, the longer focal length makes it very difficult to find the galaxy (even though it is about 220,000 light years in diameter!). The weight of the lens and camera makes everything go out of alignment at the slightest touch. But, in the end, I got some pretty decent photos and after stacking and processing, I am very happy with the results. The numbers involved here just boggle my mind, Andromeda Galaxy is 2.5 million light years from earth, over a trillion stars, and on the lower left of Andromeda there is another galaxy, M32, called a dwarf galaxy, "only" 6.5 thousand light years in diameter. It looks like a fuzzy star. To the right of Andromeda, is M110, about 17,000 light years in diameter.
